Tilfi Celebrates one of Banaras’ finest designers

Tilfi’s latest collection, “An Artist’s Legacy”, celebrates the works of one of Banaras’ finest and foremost textile designers, Late Padma Shree Jadunath Supakar.

Jadunath Supakar was known for his contributions to the popularisation of the handloom industry of Varanasi. He studied Fine Arts at Shantiniketan under the tutelage of Nandalal Bose and later worked with the State Handloom Association as a designer. He was the director of Weavers’ Service Centre, Banaras, where he worked for the cause of handloom textiles and was also awarded a Padma Shri for his contribution.
For over two decades, unfinished works created for the family owned luxury textile brand Tilfi by Jadunath Supakar lay in the archives of founders, waiting to be realised.

Years later, the next generation in the business took upon themselves to revive and recreate the works of Padma Shree Jadunath Supakar.

The Tilfi team approached Padma Shri Sribhas Chandra Supakar and several other textile designers, to complete the artist’s masterpieces. These artworks have finally been realised life through the efforts of several hands, including a team of textile designers, graphers, master weavers and craftsmen at Tilfi.

Jadunath Supakar’s designs have a certain perfection which is rare to find these days. The beauty in these designs lay in the artistry of the motifs, the balance of the gaps and the designs as well as the intricacies of the designs.

Tilfi released the collection via a beautiful heartwarming video, that you can watch here:
